It's difficult to find harvests that are hardy enough to brave frost-filled winters, but pomegranates are one of the resilient exceptions. Growing in orchards, this orange-red fruit is a welcome contrast to the dreary grey of winter: carrying tart little bursts of delight in its many gelly seeds protected fiercely by a tough outer skin.
